Objectives
- Explain how compost worms convert organic waste into castings.
- Prepare bedding with suitable moisture, airflow, and food placement.
- Use a simple observation log to prevent overfeeding and drying.
02 · Preparation
Materials
Opaque ventilated bin with lid; red wigglers; shredded plain cardboard or paper; water mister; a small amount of approved produce scraps; gloves, tongs, or spoons; magnifier; labels; care log.
03 · Practice

Observe live worms and describe movement, color, moisture, and response to light.

Moisten shredded bedding until it feels like a wrung-out sponge.

Fill the bin loosely, add the worms, and cover them with bedding.

Sort sample items into feed, do not feed, and ask first categories.
- 5
Bury one small feeding in a marked corner and close the lid.
- 6
Assign weekly moisture, food, odor, and population checks on the care log.
