Objectives

Recognize mature, healthy seed suitable for saving.
Clean, dry, package, and label seed correctly.
Record variety, source, year, quantity, and storage location.

02 · Preparation

Materials

Dry seed heads or mature produce; trays; bowls; screens; tweezers; envelopes; jars for fully dry seed; desiccant packet as appropriate; labels; magnifier; inventory sheet; germination-test supplies.

03 · Practice

Adult project

Confirm the plant identity, maturity, and whether seed is worth saving.

Remove seed over a tray and separate debris and damaged pieces.

Spread seed in a labeled breathable layer until fully dry.

Count a small sample and start a paper-towel germination test.

Package and label variety, year, source, and handling notes.

Enter the packet into inventory and store it cool, dark, and dry.
