Conduct a Spring Plant-Care Audit

Adult extension of: Spring Plant Check-Up

March 29–April 2, 2027 · planned

Review identified plants, compare growth records, and prioritize one supported care action rather than treating every change as a problem.

Curriculum skill focus: Observation, care decisions, sorting, recording

01 · Learning

Objectives

  • Confirm the plant identity and review the previous care record.
  • Compare observations with the plant’s care guidance before selecting water, repositioning, or further checking.
  • Set a follow-up observation date and note questions that require a more experienced grower.

02 · Preparation

Materials

Labeled established plants or dated photographs; Magnifier, care cards, simple observation sheet; Adult-controlled watering tool and clean tray

03 · Practice

Adult project

  1. 1

Confirm the plant identity and review the previous care record.

  2. 2

Record visible growth, leaf condition, container drainage, and the available light.

  3. 3

Compare observations with the plant’s care guidance before selecting water, repositioning, or further checking.

  4. 4

Complete only an appropriate, authorized care action and document what changed.

  5. 5

Set a follow-up observation date and note questions that require a more experienced grower.

Evidence & interpretation

What the investigation shows

New growth and appearance provide clues, but a single yellow or drooping leaf does not identify a cause. Care decisions need species information and growing conditions.

Practical connection

Why this work matters

Practice observation, decision-making, shared responsibilities, and communication through a concrete plant or materials task. Participants choose hands-on, planning, or recording roles.

Participation by choice

Individual access options

  • Offer speech, pointing, gaze, AAC, partner-assisted scanning, or a recorded choice. Follow individual vision and mobility plans. Present one or two items at a time; watching, declining, and taking a break are valid participation.
  • Use a seated-height tray, stabilized tools, large-print or picture instructions, and partner assistance chosen by the participant.
  • Reduce the number of comparisons or complete the planning and observation portions without handling materials.

Review & transfer

Reflect on the work

  • What information would prevent unnecessary watering?
  • Which observation needs another check before action?
