Adult extension of: Mint Senses Scavenger Hunt - Substitute Extension

The substitute activity becomes an adult mindfulness and self-advocacy practice: observe one herb at a time, describe the experience, and communicate preferences or boundaries.

  • Observe an herb using chosen sensory channels.
  • Use specific descriptive language or supported communication.
  • Identify one preferred, neutral, and avoided sensory feature.

Materials

Identified mint and other approved herbs; individual trays; magnifier; scent jars or sealed samples; texture tools; high-contrast observation card; writing, photo, AAC, or voice-recording option.

    Review smell, touch, observe only, stop, and skip choices.

    Examine one identified herb visually before adding another sense.

    Describe shape, color, surface, temperature, scent, or movement.

    Compare mint with one contrasting herb or non-scented plant.

    Record preferred, neutral, and avoid responses without ranking them.

    Choose one herb and one safe way to use or care for it.
